"DJing is not just playing songs. It's reading minds and creating memories!"
How did you get into DJing?
I started out on my boat party excursions overseas, while I was Club Repping for a popular youth holiday company.
What for you are the key cornerstones of a great DJ set?
Preparation is key to a successful performance! And this is my tick list to get your wedding popping:
* Understanding the brief
* Organise a follow-up music consultation
* Use time productively during meeting with the couple to confirm all details/discuss any changes
* Prep playlist and download any requested songs
* Engage with crowd control
* Execute the running order
* Focus on floor-fillers for music direction
* Take guest requests (if it fits the brief)
Tell us about a favourite wedding DJing experience of yours...!
Too many great moments for there to be a favourite. However, nothing beats the feeling you get from jamming alongside other great live performers, for example saxophone or percussion. The crowd energy is always electric!
What one track is your surefire guaranteed floorfiller?
Show Me Love - Robin S
Do you think DJing a wedding differs in any way from a regular DJ set - and if so, how? - or do the core principles remain the same?
Of course, private gigs will always differ to DJing your typical club/bar gig, as it requires a lot more TLC, preparation and organisation, to provide the perfect performance. The mixture of ages and music types, makes it an art to keep the dancefloor filled throughout the wedding, and something I thrive on!
What's the most unusual or memorable wedding experience you've ever had?
I think the most entertaining was when the groom was AWOL, when calling for first dance. He was finally found in bed passed out. First dance commenced 2 hours later than scheduled, once he sobered up slightly!
Fundamentally, what can a couple expect from you as their wedding DJ?
Personable, organised, reliable, adaptable, across the board music knowledge, a lot of energy, and a fun positive vibe from start to finish!
