What for you are the key cornerstones of a great DJ set?
Never be frightened to mix it up, going down and up. It's a story, just you have to connect it the way you feel. People used to be too linear, I never was, but realised when people used to say 'I love your sets as they go everywhere'.
Tell us about a favourite wedding DJing experience of yours...!
Off top of my head, it was playing before an incredible jazz ensemble at the Palm House. The drummer absolutely loved what I was playing, and decided to join in on few of the more underground house tracks, adding live percussion.
Epic! Do you think DJing a wedding differs in any way from a regular DJ set - and if so, how? - or do the core principles remain the same?
Of course it does, you just have to be aware that as a night ebbs, and flows you want to get those special songs in when the couple are on floor. Look out for little nods etc. And be open, and aware, and don't get annoyed by change and request. The way I fulfil my own personal needs is that I like to craft a journey, and offer new pieces to the tapestry of music with the odd track I think will work - edutainment we call it.
What 10 albums would be your Desert Island Discs?
Fingers Inc - Another Side
Daft Punk Homework
The Beatles - White Album
Nirvana - Nevermind
Gza aka Genius - Liquid Swords
Bjork - Post
Donny Hathaway - Live
Ron Trent - What do the Stars Say
Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life,
REM - Automatic for the People
What a great list! Fundamentally, what can a couple expect from you as their wedding DJ?
Someone slick, skilled, full of humour, and on-the-pulse - but also very approachable...like a cuddly care bear with a game face on.
