What for you are the key cornerstones of a great DJ set?
For me its all about the crowd engagement, a packed dancefloor with a feeling that the dancers simply cannot leave as they don't want to miss the next brilliant song.
Do you think DJing a wedding differs in any way from a regular DJ set - and if so, how? - or do the core principles remain the same?
Some core principles remain, the reading of the crowd, good mixing skills. But my approach towards weddings differs greatly to a club DJ set. I always put the the bride & grooms musical tastes front and centre. They will have had years of musical experiences with friends & family. I strongly believe that should be represented on the biggest celebration of their lives.
What's the most unusual or memorable first dance record you've ever played?
Well i'd have to go with Where's Me Jumper by the Sultans of Ping, a perfect representation of a wonderful couple whose alternative tastes were well represented throughout their incredibly fun day. Which included the bright orange suit worn by the groom!
What 10 albums would be your Desert Island Discs?
I'd have to go for nostalgia here, in no specific order:
* Prodigy - Experience
* The Stone Roses - Stone Roses
* Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing
* Cypress Hill - Black Sunday
* Michael Jackson - Thriller
* Fantazia Club Classics Vol 2
* Fleetwood Mac - Tango in The Night
* Leftfield - Leftism
* Paul Simon - Graceland
* Gatecrasher - Wet
Fundamentally, what can a couple expect from you as their wedding DJ?
A very safe pair of hands that will prioritise their wishes, they can have as much or as little involvement as they like on the music side of things. I will give nothing less than 100% to ensure their wedding reception is one to remember.
