Biography

What for you are the key cornerstones of a great DJ set?

Know your music, be confident in your selection and, of course, actually enjoy it and move! If you're not vibing then how can you expect anyone else to?

What 3 records are impossible for you to leave out of any DJ set?

This is tricky as it depends on the gig, but in most cases... Talking Heads - Once in a Lifetime, Robyn - Dancing On My Own, and New Order - Blue Monday.

Do you think DJing a wedding differs in any way from a regular DJ set - and if so, how? - or do the core principles remain the same?

The core principles that I go by are still the same - however at a wedding you need to cover so much more ground. It's probably the only environment where you could realistically play Frankie Valli and Fred Again in the same set.

What 10 albums would be your Desert Island Discs?

In no particular order...

  1. Talking Heads - Remain in Light
  2. Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
  3. Oasis - Definitely Maybe
  4. A Tribe Called Quest - People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm
  5. Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
  6. The Clash - London Calling
  7. The Streets - Original Pirate Material
  8. Blondie - Parallel Lines
  9. Motown - Greatest Hits (Probably cheating, but hey I'm having it)
  10. The Chemical Brothers - No Geography

Do you have any big DJing no-no's?

Don't make it all about you - you're ultimately there to facilitate a vibe. Letting a great chorus play out is way more important than your crazy word play mash up.

Fundamentally, what can a couple expect from you as their wedding DJ?

I try to make the set as personal as I can. That means I want to get to know you both; what music you loved growing up and how that's shaped your taste today. We go on such a journey with music in life and songs can be intrinsically linked to key moments, sometimes without us even realising.

I ask every couple I work with for a playlist of around 20 of their favourite, most important songs. That gives me the perfect starting point to build their mix. Music can tell your story in the same way a great speech can, so I always approach it with that level of love and care.

And bangers, of course.

Reviews

We booked George for our wedding and he was absolutely amazing. Very professional and friendly. Consulted with us along the way and thoroughly planned ahead for our special day. He had ourselves and our guests up dancing all night and helped make the day a memorable one. Thanks so much!! Highly recommend George!

We booked George after meeting him at The Alt Wedding Fair and from our first meeting, we felt fully confident in booking him to DJ at our wedding. The most important part of the night to us, was for the music to reflect us both. We’ve been to way too many weddings/parties where the music just didn’t suit the main age range of the hosts or the majority of the guests. We didn’t want any stereotypical family party music but we still wanted our parents, aunties and uncles to hear the songs that make them want to get up and dance. We’ve had bad experiences with DJ’s in the past but George listened to all of our queries and concerns, putting us fully at ease. He took everything we asked of him on board and he absolutely smashed it! Our friends and family keep telling us that our wedding was just banger after banger. A few even mentioned that they were waiting for a chance to have a break from dancing, but the tunes kept coming, and they felt like they couldn’t leave the dancefloor. We were so impressed by the variety of song choices. We obviously couldn’t put every song we love on our ‘must play’ list yet so many songs that we and our friends absolutely love kept taking us by surprise and it's evident how made up we all are by the videos from the night! A massive thank you to George as well for exceeding our expectations in every way. Not just for the music but for liaising with the venue’s events team and also our friend who played an acoustic set before George took over on our arrival. We put them both in touch and it was organised between them so well to ensure the handover on the night was seamless. We can’t recommend George enough!

If I could give more than 5 stars I would! George DJd our wedding and he is easily one of the very best suppliers I've ever worked with. He was a dream from start to finish and gave us a phenomenal party that we'll never forget. From the first point of communication, George was friendly, helpful and made the booking process super easy. He arranged a proper consultation with us, and took time to really understand what kind of music we enjoy, what would throw us back and give us that nostalgia hit, what kind of atmosphere we wanted to create - and also importantly, what the musical vibe of our guests might be in order to cater to everyone. His consultation form was great and we had total confidence that we could leave it all in his hands and relax and enjoy the rest of our planning. In the lead up, George kept in touch just the right amount, and was also collaborative and helpful with our other suppliers, helping to make sure everything was seamless. He was always the first to reply! On the day, George arrived in plenty of time to set up (despite travelling all the way down to London, which again we SO appreciate). He was discreet getting everything ready and again, fab with all our other suppliers. Then the party itself, WHAT A NIGHT. George played absolutely everything that was important to us, and had a lively dancefloor from the moment he started. He moved through eras of music and always matched the mood of our guests perfectly, keeping the party going all night. I had so many people come up to me and ask about him through the night and tell me how brilliant he was. Despite what must have been such a LONG day for him, he kept the vibes sky high and everyone had such a brilliant time. My personal favourite part was the heavy section to end the night where everyone fully let go and just had the best time. I truly can't recommend him enough. The music and dancing was the part of the night I had been looking forward to the most and I always felt totally confident with George - he's got top notch music taste so we knew we were in good hands, and he absolutely delivered. We will never forget our day and this was such a big part of it for me. We're now looking for excuses to book him again (neighbour's cats' birthday party? Postman's driving test pass?) and are hoping we might make it to one of his club nights soon!
